BABATUNDE RAJI FASHOLA COMMENTS ON 'RADICAL ISLAM'.

Public Presentation of Dr. Yinka Olomojobi's Book "Frontiers of Jihad, Radical Islam In Africa" Sep 15, 2015 - Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, I am delighted to have been invited to chair this book presentation by Chief Joop Berkhout, OON, the Executive Chairman and CEO of Safari Books Limited, the publishers of not a few notable titles that are increasingly documenting for posterity, the historic developments in Nigeria's public space. Their last offering at which I was present, was Governor Nasir El Rufai's "The Accidental Public Servant" which was not only revealing but extremely well received. Today, we gather to receive another offering from Safari Books; and while I expect that the book reviewer will take us through its well researched contents, I will now share with you my own source of delight. A few weeks ago, a report broke on Cable News Network (CNN) that North Korea was threatening war on South Korea. This was not the first time. Wha...

A Muslim's Response to the 25,000 Anti-Islam Protesters in Germany

Dear 25,000 Anti-Islam Dresden Protesters and Pegida, I hear you marched in your thousands against my religion. Last week, and last month. You marched against immigrants, foreigners, and anyone a shade darker. I will not draw comparisons to Nazi Germany. I will not call you bigots, I will not insult you, and I will not label you. But we do have a problem. You marched with banners claiming your city is overcrowded with Muslims. Yet  0.1% of Dresden are Muslim . You marched claiming immigrants are  cramming your schools and leaving your children to travel miles for an education . Yet  2.5% of Dresden are foreign-born . You claim that Germany is being invaded by Muslims. Yet only  5% of Germans are Muslim . You march "against the Islamization of the West". Yet within a century containing two World Wars, the decolonisation process, countless civil conflicts, foreign intervention, globalisation, and further displacement, Muslims remain a fringe minorit...

Supplication

The Prophet -Salla Allahu 'alaihi Wa Sallam- used to frequently supplicate: "Allahumma massiknee bil Islaam hataa alqaak" "O Allaah, make me clench onto Islam till I meet you." Reading this dua'a this morning, it shook me to my core. How over confident we are thinking that we are guaranteed to die in a state of Islam. Considering the following: 1) There are no guarantees. 2) If there is one person that did not need to make this dua' it is the messenger of Allah. 3) If there is a group of people that do need to make it, it is us. Any doubt and desire can come in our path preventing us from submitting at any given moment. What if that moment is our last? O Allaah, make us clench onto Islam till we meet you. O Allaah, turner of the hearts make us firm upon your faith and obedience. O Allaah, protect us from the doubts and desires that would prevent us from submitting to you. Aamyyn. Aameen. Aamyyn. As'salaam alykum warahmatullaah wabarakatuh......

Worship during the last months of life

Question: I have a family member who is suffering from a terminal illness and does not have long to live. I would like to know what a person in this situation should focus on with regards to their Islamic worship during the last months of life e.g. seek forgiveness, making up fasts? Assalamu Alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh Thank you for your question. I ask Allah Most High to make it easy for your loved one and the family. A person with a terminal illness should prepare to meet Allah. This means rectifying themselves and their life by doing whatever Allah has enjoined on them that they had not been doing thus far, and refraining from what He has prohibited against that they haven’t yet left off. They should keep up what good they were doing with even more sincerity and focus as best they can. They should take account of and fulfill any outstanding duties owed to Allah (such as making up missed prayers, compensating for missed fasts, zakat, Hajj, etc) and to people (debts...
